Football feels economic pinch with global transfer spending down a third in 2012 | UPDATED: 18:17 GMT, 23 July 2012 Football has been hit by the worldwide recession with transfer spending during the first six months of this year down by more than a third. Global financial problems and the impact of UEFA's fair play regulations have been cited as causes for a fall in total payments between clubs in transfer and loan fees of US dollars 294million - around 190m - to 576m (372m) on the same period last year, a decrease of 34%.
